No Jammies

Lizzy is sleeping in her swimming suit tonight. When I asked her why she chose that, she replied matter-of-factly,
"My can't find any pajama tops so my thought my just wear this."

Flip-Lops

It's finally warm enough for flip flops! We are all pretty excited, but especially Lizzy (who you'll remember, hates socks). This afternoon, she let me know just how happy she is for the warmer weather.

Lizzy: "My so happy my can finally wear my flip-lops!"

"Two Hands"

Lizzy, Morgan, Jorja and I went for a walk around the block tonight. I pushed Morgan in one stroller, Lizzy pushed Jorja in another. After one lap, Lizzy decided she wanted to ride her bike instead.

Me: "But who is going to push Jorja if you ride your bike?"
Lizzy: "You."
Me: "How am I going to push two strollers?"
Lizzy: "You do have two hands."

Ladybug Princess

Lizzy's outfits no longer surprise me.

And I no longer argue with her about her clothing choices. At this point, I figure as long as she's dressed, that's really all that matters.

So today, when she decided to celebrate spring with a Christmas dress, I figured "why not".

And when she added the ladybug wings from Lexi's Halloween costume, I thought "cute".

I didn't really think she'd wear them all day.

I was wrong.

Except for a quick trip to the dentist and speech, and a brief wardrobe change (she wanted to wear a Vikings shirt when she noticed Lexi was wearing a VIkings shirt) Otherwise, the Christmas dress/ladybug wings were the costume of the day.  And, if you look closely, you'll see she is also wearing two different flip flops. She likes them that way.

When I asked her about her outfit, Lizzy quickly replied:

"For my am the Ladybug Princess."

She's right.

It takes a true princess to pull this look off. It also takes a lot of confidence. It just so happens, Lizzy is the most confident princess I've ever met!

Pink Peeps!

Lizzy was so excited about everything in her Easter basket, especially the pink peeps:

"Pink Peeps! My been dreaming about you!"

Easter Lizzy-isms

We went to the Easter Vigil tonight. It's a beautiful service, but very long. We were nervous about taking the little girls, but decided to try it.

We should have found a sitter. Lizzy was in rare form. I'm not sure if it was the 9pm start, the excitement of sitting with the Klaudts, or the fact that the lights were off for the first half of the mass, or a combination of all three things that had her so riled up. Anyway, while she was totally distracting and caused me to miss the entre homily, it did provide for some classic Lizzy-isms....

Lizzy-ism #1:
Lexi got new sparkly flip flops today. Lizzy did not (because Lizzy just got three new pairs of shoes a couple of weeks ago). I should know better. As we were getting dressed for church, Lizzy had a minor melt down, because she didn't have any "beautiful" shoes to wear. I told her it was too late to go shopping, so she'd have to just wear an old pair. After much digging, she found a sparkly, beautiful pair of Minnie Mouse shoes. I'm so over arguing about fashion with her. She wore these beautes to church:

Lizzy-ism #2:
Lizzy had a beautiful new pink dress for mass. It was a cute dress, but pretty basic... just a knit dress with a couple of ruffles. No sparkles. She loved it, until she saw the beautiful, sparkly dress Jorja was wearing. Then jealousy kicked in. She ran to the corner and cried. After about five minutes of consoling her, she finally admitted why she was crying:
"Jorja looks so beautiful. My just have a boring dress. No one will think I'm beautiful when they see Jorja."
Memo to self: Next Easter, spend the extra $5 and buy the sparkly dress for Lizzy.

Lizzy-ism #3:
Me: "Lizzy, you should use your whispering voice. We're in church."
Lizzy (loudly): "My can't. For if my use my whispering voice, no one will hear me!"

Lizzy-ism #4:
I spent much of the mass "shhh-ing" Lizzy, with my finger to my lips and everything. Towards the end of the mass, I leaned forward and whispered something to Jesse. Lizzy promptly looked up at me and "shhhh-ed" me... with her fingers to her lips and everything!!

Lizzy-ism #5:
After mass, Lizzy and I were snuggling in the rocking chair and re-capping our day. As we talked about how the Easter Bunny will come after she goes to sleep, Lizzy got a very concerned look on her face and exclaimed:
"I bet the Easter Bunny will be tired of hopping by the time he gets to our house."

There are more but  I'm too tired to remember all of them. I must go to bed so that poor Easter bunny can hop on over to our house. Check back tomorrow. In the meatime, happy Easter from Lizzy (and the rest of us too!)

Dressed for Success

It's been years since I've seen Lexi in a dress (which is funny, because when she was Lizzy's age, all she wore was dresses). Anyway, I talked her into buying a nice outfit to wear to church tonight. She ended up with a skirt, t-shirt, flowy vest-things and new sparkly flip flops. It was fun shopping with her, but I was sure she would chicken out and beg to wear jeans to church.

I was wrong.

She spent about an hour getting ready, and even curled her hair. She came upstairs looking for a bobby pin and grumbled "Ugh. I look like a girl. I hate this outfit."

I assured her she looked beautiful (she did... check out the picture.....she was NOT happy I was taking a picture of her wearing a skirt!) And in case my compliments weren't enough, Lizzy offered her own:

"Wow Lexi. You look like a teacher. Or a teenager! My love your skirt!"

That at least made her smile, but I'm pretty sure she'll never wear that outfit again. There's just something about sweats and t-shirts....

Sharing With Bob

Lizzy loves Bob enough to share her supper with him..... but sharing the food in her mouth was a bit much for her to stomach!

"That's What My Talkin' About"

Lizzy really enjoys her food, especially this grilled cheese sandwich.

Thrift Store Shopping

Lizzy and Mary went thrift store shopping last week, looking for sandbox toys. On the way to the thrift store, Mary was explaining to Lizzy what a thrift store was.  She told her it's a second-hand store and that her sister Teresa loves shopping for treasures at thrift stores.

When they got to the store, Lizzy looked around, and in a very serious voice said: "It smells like Teresa in here!"

Marker Board Art

Lizzy was drawing on a marker board tonight. Here's her masterpiece:

Lizzy: "Look Mom. My draw you a picture. It says 'Lizzy love Mommy in the spring with the roses'."

Too Quiet

Our house is rarely quiet. Apparently Lizzy likes the noise. Tonight, it was just Lizzy and I up. She was helping me frost Lexi's cake.

Lizzy: "It's so quiet here."
Me: "I know. Finally. Isn't it great?"
Lizzy: "No. My don't like it."
Me: "Why not?"
Lizzy: "Because it's so boring. I have no one to play with. My just have to sit here with you."

So Young

Lizzy is fascinated by old pictures. She looked through a big pile of Lexi's baby pictures tonight. When she came across this one, she had a look of total disbelief on her face...

"Mom, you look so young!"

Ouch.

But I was pretty young... 24. What I wouldn't give to be 24 again.....

Banana

Lizzy and I were looking at pictures from when Lexi was born. She recognized her grandpas, but not many others. This one really stumped her:

Lizzy: "Who is that?"
Me: "That's your cousin BreighAnna."
Lizzy: "Hmm. Banana looks happy to be holding baby Lexi."

"My thought it was spring"

Lizzy, upon seeing more snow this morning:

Lizzy: "Mom, my thought you said my birthday was in the spring. My just had my birthday, but it looks like winter."
Me: "I know. This snow is crazy, huh?"
Lizzy (deep sigh): "Maybe when my turn five it will be spring."

"Wait for it"

Lizzy wanted to show me a picture in a book. She was having a hard time finding the picture, and got a little frustrated:

"Just wait for it Mom."

Thanks Tess for helping her find the picture!

Knock Knock Stories

Our conversation as we drove across town last night:

Lizzy: "Knock knock."
Me: "Who's there?"
Lizzy: "Um.... Lexi."
Me: "Lexi who?"
Lizzy: "Um... Lexi Smarty Pants" (laughs hysterically... Lexi is not really amused).

This goes on for about five minutes. She won't stop telling these hilarious jokes.

Lizzy: "Knock knock"
Me: "Can we take a break from the jokes, Lizzy?"
Lizzy: "But Mom... my have LOTS of knock knock stories to tell you!"

Tea Party

Last week Lizzy remembered she had a tea set. We've had lots of tea parties since then. One afternoon Morgan was napping and I had a ton of things I needed to get done, so I suggested she have a tea party with some of her stuffed animals. She chose Perry the Platypus and Agent P.

About 10 minutes into the tea party, I heard her moving around. I went into the kitchen, expecting to find a huge mess. Much to my surprise, I found the opposite. Lizzy had a rag and was busy scrubbing the counter, the chair, the floor, even Perry.

Me: "Lizzy, what are you doing?"
Lizzy: "My cleaning up. The tea party is over."
Me: "Wow. That's great that you're cleaning up."
Lizzy: "Well, Mom, that's what four year olds do. And soon my will be four. So my am just practicing."

I think I'm going to like having a four year old in the house.

Three... going on 15

Lizzy: "My can't wait til I'm 15."
Me: "Why do you want to be 15?"
Lizzy: "For when my 15 my can be a mom!"

Uh-oh.

Pinkalicious

Lizzy's birthday is Friday. I finally finished her party invitations today.

I'm pretty sure everyone she's met in the past two weeks knows her birthday is April 15th and that she will be turning four years old. As for the party, she would like to invite "everyone my know".  Her theme is "Pinkalicioius (thanks to my sister for getting her hooked on those books).

We'll have a pink fruit pizza, pink lemonade, and pink cupcakes, among other pink things.

It's going to be a big, pinkalicious party, with lots of pinkalicious Lizzy-isms!

The Trouble Maker

I finally took a few things to my new office this week to make it feel more like my own space. Among the things I took, was this picture of my kids.

Less than an hour after I finished "decorating", two of my bosses came to my office for a meeting. The picture caught their eye, and they asked about each kid. I was telling them names and ages, and when I got to Lizzy they both immediately said "she's trouble, isn't she?"

They could tell by her devilish grin, they said.

Or maybe they've heard stories about Lizzy.

Heck, maybe they're even Lizzy-ism fans.

Or, maybe there's just no hiding it... Lizzy is a trouble maker. She is full of personality, curiousity and questions. She is also a ton of fun and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

"Sorry Babies"

Lizzy decided to snuggle Perry the Platapus at bedtime tonight. She hugged him and rolled over to talk to the babies on the shelf by her bed and offered her best apology:

"Sorry, babies," said with total attitude, of course.

Love, No Matter What

Lizzy took some laundry into Lexi's room tonight. She came back out to the living room with a puzzled look on her face.

Lizzy: "Mom, Lexi say she love me. My can't believe that. Even after I've been so naughty to her."

Magic Words

Lexi: "Lizzy, you have to say the magic word."
Lizzy: "Abra-to-dabra."
Lexi: "That's not the magic word."
Lizzy: "Abra-to-sam-ra."
Lexi: "That's not it either."
Lizzy: "Well those are the magic words in Fairy Land."

No Lizzy-isms

8:45 pm:
Me: "Lizzy! I can't believe it. I haven't written a Lizzy-ism all day. You must not be very funny today."

9:00 pm:
Lizzy: "Mom, my have a joke for you. What did number one say to number two?"
Me: "I don't know."
Lizzy: "Him said 'Hey girlfriend! You wanna get some chocolate milk and fried chicken?' Is that a funny joke?"

Me: "Yep. It's hilarious."
Lizzy: "Yay! I said something funny. Now you can write a Lizzy-ism!"

New Movie

The girls and I are spending the weekend in Grand Forks. Lexi is playing in a basketball tournament. I knew it would be a long drive here, so I bought Lizzy a new movie for the ride. She's been wanting to see "Tangled", so that's what I bought. She was so quiet, watching it in the back seat, I thought she must be really enjoying the movie.

Me: "Lizzy, how's your movie?"
Lizzy: "LONG!"

She still hasn't watched the whole thing!
