Lizzy made me close my eyes while she lead me down the hallway to her room, which she was supposed to be cleaning
Her instructions as we entered her room: "Feast your eyes!"
I have to admit, she cleaned pretty well... although I haven't opened the closet yet. I'm pretty sure she just shoved everything in there....

Too Tall Teacher
Lizzy, as she watched Lexi's very tall (as in 6'4" tall) former teacher walk into the room: "Wow. Do you have to kneel when you walk through that door?"

Basketball
Lizzy has a love-hate relationship with basketball.
She wants to hate it, just to be a rebel, but I think she actually kind of loves it.
Tonight was her first night of Itty Bitty Basketball.
Our conversation during her water break:
Me: "You're doing great."
Lizzy, as she ran off to play some more: "Well, I still hate basketball."
I'm not buying it. She loves it... and I love that she was the best listener!
Here's a clip of the ball handling drill - Lizzy is in the pink shirt, to the left of the screen. She only dribbled off her foot once... :)

How you know my name?
Lizzy had a great time at "Screen Free Night" at Jake's school tonight.
I'm not sure if she liked the origami projects, planting a flower, or yoga the best.
My favorite part was during yoga:
Mrs. Knutson, watching Lizzy: "Wow, Lizzy, how did you get so good at yoga?"
Lizzy, giving a dirty look: "How you know my name is Lizzy?"
Mrs. Knutson, making a very quick recovery: "Um, you just really look like a Lizzy."

Favorite Restaurant
The girls and I went out for a sandwich at one of our favorite restaurants today.
I knew they liked it, but I wasn't sure why Sonnets was such a favorite, until our lunch conversation:
Lizzy: "I just love this restaurant."
Me: "Me too. My sandwich is so good."
Lizzy: "Yeah, my love it for two reasons: because it's not so fancy, and because these pickles are delicious."

Note the two pickles on Lizzy's tray! |
Morgan managed to get a little of the peanut butter and marshmallow cream in her mouth! |

A Giraffe
Have you ever wondered what a giraffe sounds like?
If so (and even if you haven't), here's the answer:
I was told a giraffe sounds like that because "he eats leaves, and thats what it sounds like when you eat crunchy leaves."
Also, worth noting: Lizzy was her own camera person - pretty impressive, huh?

"But I Can't Pay the Rent"
This is the kind of stuff Great Auntie Mary teaches Lizzy:
So funny.
She did it again at the mall today and even got a group of crabby old grandmas to crack a smile :)

"I'm Sexy and I Know It"
Lizzy entertained us with her version of the popular song "I'm Sexy and I Know It" on the drive to school this morning.
I gotta say, I think I like her "ants in my pants" version better than the real version.
And, thanks to Lexi for recording this :)

Five Year Old Gum
It's been awhile since the girls and I have gone into Jake's school (usually we just wait in the parking lot). But today, Lizzy realized it's been a long time since she saw her two favorite custodians: Sue (our neighbor) and Joe (Madonna's neighbor), so we went inside.
We found them right away, and Lizzy proceeded to hug them both and tell them she's five now.
Joe always gives Lizzy a piece of gum.... so she was pretty sure he'd have special gum for her now that she's five:
Lizzy, while hugging Joe: "So.... do you have any five year old gum?"
He did....and insisted it was gum for five year olds, not gum that had been in his pocket for five years :)

"Thank You"
Me, yelling across the yard during Lizzy's birthday party: "Lizzy! Phone call!"
Lizzy, yelling back: "Who is it?"
Me: "It's Uncle Scott."
Lizzy, still yelling, but starting to run toward the house: "What does he want?"
Me: "Well, he's your godfather and today is your birthday. I'm guessing he called to say happy birthday."
Lizzy, no longer running: "Oh, well just tell him thank you. I'm busy."
Probably a good thing she didn't make it to the phone - Morgan had hung up on him anyway!

Happy 5th Birthday!
So many great Lizzy-isms from the birthday girl today.
My favorite:
Me, reading Lizzy what I just wrote with sidewalk chalk: "Happy 5th birthday!"
Lizzy: "That doesn't make sense. Don't you mean 'happy five birthday'? That sounds better."

Now for the videos:
It was a great day. Thanks to everyone who helped celebrate. Special thanks to James and Chrissy for teaching Lizzy this:
"I'm five and I'm alive!"
And here's to another year of Lizzy-isms!

Funnest Day Ever
Lizzy: "Mom, you know this has to be the funnest day ever, right?"
Me: "Ok, I'll try. But why?"
Lizzy: "For it's my last day of being a four year old. So it has to be fun."

The Old Days
Lizzy: "Mom, remember when you used to snap your fingers?"
Me, tired of waiting for Lizzy to finish her project: "Yes. Remember when you used to work fast?"
Lizzy: "Yeah. Those were the old days."

Sunday Shoes
We watched "Footloose" on Saturday.
Apparently, Lizzy really liked the music.
Our Sunday conversation:
Lizzy, kicking off her shoes: "What day is it?"
Me: "Sunday."
Lizzy: "Good, cuz I just kicked off my Sunday shoes.. footloose!"

Chicken Butt
Lexi: "Lizzy, do you want to take swimming lessons this summer?"
Lizzy: "Chicken butt."
Lexi: "Is that a yes or a no?"
Lizzy: "What? Chicken butt means 'yes' in Chinese!"
Lizzy: "Chicken butt."

An Auntie
Brad to Lizzy, Lexi, and Morgan: "You girls have to promise me something - you won't all get married in the same year. No way can we pay for three weddings in one year."
Lizzy: "Well that's ok. Because I'm not going to get married.'
Brad: "You're going to be a nun?"
Lizzy: "No, my am going to be an auntie. For aunties are waaaay cooler than moms."
Lizzy: "Well that's ok. Because I'm not going to get married.'

Scoreboard
Lizzy, from the back of the van as she tried to read her new watch: "Mom, what time is it?"
Me: "Why are you asking me? Don't you have a new watch?"
Lizzy: "Well yes, but don't you have a little scoreboard thingy up there that tells time?"
Me: "You mean a clock?"
Lizzy: "Yes, a scoreboard.'

"When I'm grown up"
Lizzy: "Mom, you know you won't know me when I'm grown up."
Me: "Um, why not?"
Lizzy: "Because you'll be old. And you won't recognize me."

Fast People
Lizzy: "My wish we were fast people."
Me: "Why?"
Lizzy: "So then we would never be late again."

Rock and Roll
Lizzy, to Jake while playing Rock Band on the Wii: "Pause it for a minute. I'll be right back."
Lizzy runs into her bedroom, and comes back with her hair pulled back and asks: "Does this look like rock and roll now?"
