Lizzy, while I washed her hair: "Why do I even have to wash my hair?"
Me: "You were swimming. If you don't, your blonde hair will turn green."
Lizzy: "Maybe we should dye my hair brown then."

Supportive
Just as we were leaving the YMCA daycare for Lizzy's last night of soccer, Morgan had to "potty".
I took her to the bathroom, and Lexi offered to take Lizzy to soccer.
A few minutes later, they were back, and Lizzy was giving Lexi a dirty look.

Lexi: "She won't go. She wants you."
Me: "What's the deal?
Lizzy: "I want you to go with me Mom. For you're more supportive of me than Lexi is."

Even Better
Me: "Lizzy you are being so sweet."
Lizzy, with a dramatic sigh and an eye roll: "Oh, just wait until tomorrow. I'm going to be even better."

People Are Crazy
Lizzy, when the country song "People Are Crazy" came on the radio: "Hey Mom! This song is for you... because you say God is great, you love beer, and you do think people are crazy!"
If you've never heard the song, those are the lyrics to the chorus.. here's a link to the song:
The Rules
Lizzy, after seeing a police car speed by us, with lights and sirens on: "I wonder what happened. Maybe there is a robber. Or somebody didn't follow the rules."

Remembering Things
Lizzy led us on what we thought was a wild goose chase for Lexi's iPod. Lexi had left it on the dock in her room while she and I went to the store. The little girls stayed home with Brad. When we got home, Lexi's iPod was not on her dock. Lizzy insisted Morgan took it, and Morgan confessed, but couldn't remember where she put it. As we searched the house, Lizzy remembered that while Lexi and I went to the store, Morgan had been carrying around a green purse and thought the iPod was in there. After searching two green purses, Lizzy found the iPod, and earned an apology from Lexi:
Lexi: "Wow Lizzy. I'm sorry I doubted you. You really did remember."
Lizzy: "Yep. It's good to remember things, and to have a parent who actually watches us kids, not plays in his garage, right Dad?"
Lizzy: "Yep. It's good to remember things, and to have a parent who actually watches us kids, not plays in his garage, right Dad?"
Apparently Morgan had gone into the house, rummaged through Lexi's room and gone back outside without Brad noticing! Oops!
This Much Fun
Lizzy, after a weekend at the farm, a stop at Salem Sue, Petrified Wood Park, and a swim: "Mom! I had no idea summer vacation was going to be this much fun!"

Advice
Me, as Lizzy stumbled into my bedroom way past her bedtime: "What do you need?"
Lizzy: "I need some advice."
Me: "Um, ok. What kind of advice?"
Lizzy: "Sleeping advice."
Lizzy: "I need some advice."
Me: "Um, ok. What kind of advice?"
Lizzy: "Sleeping advice."

Tropical Fruit
In the rear view mirror this morning I could tell Lizzy was eating something. I had a hunch it was some candy she had stashed back there a few days ago.
Me: "Lizzy, you aren't eating Skittles for breakfast are you?"
Lizzy: "Well, they are tropical fruit!"
Lizzy: "Well, they are tropical fruit!"
So Much To Know
Mary, after spending more than ten minutes answering Lizzy's questions: "Lizzy, why do you ask so many questions?"
Lizzy: "I don't know... but there's so much stuff I want to know about!"
Lizzy: "I don't know... but there's so much stuff I want to know about!"

"Born for This"
Me: "Lizzy, I'm sorry. You're going to be a few minutes late for swimming."
Lizzy: "That's ok. I was born for this."
Me: "Born for what?"
Lizzy: "For being late!"
Knock Yourselves Out
Lexi: "Lizzy, can we have some gummy worms back here?"
Lizzy, throwing the package to the back of the van where Jake and Lexi were sitting: "Sure. Knock yourselves out."

Dandelions
Lizzy, upon seeing a field of yellow: "Wow! Look at all those dandelions!"
Me: "Um, that's canola Lizzy."
Me: "Um, that's canola Lizzy."
Oops. Guess it's pretty obvious she's not a farm kid.
It really was a pretty sight though.. I can see why it caught her attention!

Kindergarten Songs
Lizzy is loving Jumpstart, or "school" as she calls it.
I'm really not sure what she's going to do when this week is over and she has to wait until the end of August to go to school again!
This morning, one of the kindergarten teachers stopped me to tell me how much Lizzy has grown up, and what a joy she is to have in class. Talk about a proud mom moment!
Before bed, Lizzy wanted me to record her singing a few of her favorite kindergarten songs, to send to her teachers.. you know, for brownie points :)
I thought I should share them here too. Enjoy!
FYI
I've been trying really hard to lose some weight, and my kids have become my diet and exercise Nazi's:
"Mom.. don't eat that!"
"Mom, did you exercise yet today?"
It's annoying, yet kind of sweet, and surprisingly motivating.
Today, I was visiting with a friend I haven't seen for several months and she asked if I'd lost weight. I said yes, a little, but I'd like to lose a lot more.
Lizzy didn't say anything... until we got to the van:
Lizzy, to me: "Oh, and Mom, FYI.. you're still fat."
Ouch.

Rainbow Shirt
Jake, after Lizzy's first day of Jumpstart: "So who's your teacher?"
Lizzy: "You know, the one in the rainbow shirt."
Lizzy: "You know, the one in the rainbow shirt."
Sucks to be You
Lizzy, to me when I discovered Morgan had a poopy diaper: "Well, sucks to be you, Mom!"
We had a talk about why that might not be a very appropriate thing for a five year old to say - and that was a very difficult lecture for me to give while fighting back giggles!
Don't Worry
Lizzy is pretty creative.
For example, to reach a popsicle out of the freezer in the garage, she pushes a trike over to the freezer and stands on it while she reaches her popsicle.
My dad witnessed this:
Grandpa Shea, while holding the trike while Lizzy climbed: "Be careful Lizzy!"
Lizzy: "Why?"
Grandpa Shea: "Well, I worry about you."
Lizzy: "Oh, don't worry. I'm five."
Lizzy: "Why?"
Grandpa Shea: "Well, I worry about you."
Lizzy: "Oh, don't worry. I'm five."

Teenager
Lizzy's new favorite thing to do is climb on the top bunk and play with Lexi's old iPod.
We finally figured out why.
Lexi, to Lizzy as she played on her iPod on her top bunk: "Are you a teenager?"
Lizzy: "Why? Am I acting like one?
Lexi: "Yeah."
Lizzy: "Good. That's what I was going for."
Lizzy: "Why? Am I acting like one?
Lexi: "Yeah."
Lizzy: "Good. That's what I was going for."
Get Along
Lizzy, to me in church as she watched Lexi and Jake serve Mass: "I just love it when Lexi and Jake have to serve. It's the only time I ever see them get along!"
Hearts
Lizzy: "Can somebody please cut my toast?"
Jake: "Ok. I will. Do you want squares or triangles?"
Lizzy, without hesitation: "Hearts."
Jake: "Ok. I will. Do you want squares or triangles?"
Lizzy, without hesitation: "Hearts."
Gotta love Jake - he made it happen:
But the best part, was Lizzy's comment when I asked to take a picture:
Lizzy: "Will you please put this on that idea website?"
She meant Pinterest... and because Lizzy said so, I am pinning this :)

28-cents
Lizzy, making a sign for her lemonade stand: "How do you spell lemonade?"
Me, after spelling out lemonade: "Now you have to put a price. Make a two.. then a five."
Lizzy: "I don't like to make fives. How about I just make an eight? I like making eights."
And, so Lizzy sold lemonade for 28-cents a glass at her lemonade stand.

"Blah, Blah, Blacksheep"
Lizzy: "Guess what nursery rhyme we learned in school today?"
Me: "I don't know. You should just tell me and maybe I'll know it."
Lizzy: "Ok. Blah, blah, black sheep...."
Me: "I don't know. You should just tell me and maybe I'll know it."
Lizzy: "Ok. Blah, blah, black sheep...."

Don't Hug Me
Today was day three of Jumpstart Kindergarten.
Lizzy is apparently an expert at the school business now.
Lizzy as I dropped her off at at school this morning: "Just walk across the street with me and leave. Don't talk to anyone and don't hug me."
"My Lizzy-isms"
Me: "Wow, everyone at school knows your name Lizzy."
Lizzy: "Well I am Jake and Lexi's sister."
Me: "Oh, I guess that's why they know you."
Lizzy: "Well, that and I do have my Lizzy-isms. Lots of people know me from that."

Busy Lizzy
Lizzy had a very busy day:
- Jumpstart Kindergarten from 8:00-12:00
- Speech from 1:30-2:00
- Swimming lessons from 4:00-4:35
That's pretty much the result of poor planning on my part, and I wondered if she could handle it all.
Me: "Lizzy, you have a lot of stuff to do today. Do you think you will be ok? It's ok to take a nap if you need one."
Lizzy: "Nope. I'm fine. But I am glad my name is Lizzy today."
Me: "Why?"
Lizzy: "Because it rhymes with busy and today I am Busy Lizzy!"
Lizzy: "Nope. I'm fine. But I am glad my name is Lizzy today."
Me: "Why?"
Lizzy: "Because it rhymes with busy and today I am Busy Lizzy!"
FYI - she did awesome at all three things today - and between speech and swimming, took a swim in the pool in our yard, and after swimming lessons at the Y, jumped right back into our pool!
She will sleep well tonight!
No Mice
I hate mice.
That's no secret, and it's something my children are very well aware of.
Apparently I've passed my dislike/hatred of mice onto Lizzy.
This was one of the papers she brought home from Jumpstart today, and our conversation about this paper:
Me: "Wow, did you color that clock? That's really good.
Lizzy: "Yep. And I also colored the mouse. But really I scratched the mouse out, because I do NOT like mice!"
Lizzy: "Yep. And I also colored the mouse. But really I scratched the mouse out, because I do NOT like mice!"
Scared
Lizzy, screaming and freaking out as we're driving across town: "Ick! There's a spider!"
Jake: "Well, squish it."
Lizzy: "No. It's so gross. I can't.
Me: "Really? The girl who isn't scared of anything is scared of a spider?
Lizzy: "Well yes. Spiders are icky and they bite. I am scared of things that can bite me. And mice. And rats. And bats. Nothing else."
Jake: "Well, squish it."
Lizzy: "No. It's so gross. I can't.
Me: "Really? The girl who isn't scared of anything is scared of a spider?
