"That's How I Roll"

Lizzy, after I complimented her on her manners at lunch today:

"Yep. Cuz that's how I roll."

Gone

Lizzy: "How you spell 'gone'?"
Brad, as he wrote it in chalk on the deck: "G-O-N-E"
Lizzy copied it, and then added her own name (backwards)
Lizzy: "See that? It say 'Lizzy gone forever'."
We've kept all the doors locked today, and warned the neighbors.. just in case she really is running away!

Clean Feet

Despite a year of speech therapy, the "k" sound (also known as the "cracking nut" sound) is still tough for Lizzy. She gets frustrated, says she hates the cracking nut, and refuses to say them. But she's smart... she can always find a way around saying the "k" sound:

Me, as I kissed Lizzy's feet: "Lizzy, I'm tired. I think it's bedtime."
Lizzy: "Um, please don't "t-iss" my "t-ean" feet."
Me: "Ok, I won't.. if you can say a cracking nut.. "kiss" and "clean".
Lizzy: "K-iss"
Me: "Ok, now 'clean'".
Lizzy, sniffing her feet: "Ew, my feet are stinky. Don't k-iss them!"

Vacation Plans

Lizzy, after seeing a commercial for Disneyland:

"We should go there.... maybe if we ever stop being naughty!"

What to Wear

I wish I was Lizzy.

The girl has so much self-confidence.

She never second guesses an outfit.

She just wears what makes her happy.

Today, that outfit was a dress, and heels.

She didn't care that we were spending the day at a track meet.

In her mind, why wouldn't she wear a dress and fancy shoes to a track meet?

I pray she never, ever loses that self-confidence.

I also pray that, when it comes to fashion,  a little of that self-confidence wears off on me....

Coffee is for Moms

I got an iced coffee this afternoon. Morgan threw a mini-fit when I wouldn't let her have a drink. Lizzy explained to her why she couldn't have any:

"Coffee is for moms. All moms. I read that in a magazine."

A Day With Grandma

Grandma Jill watched Lizzy and Morgan today. At supper, Brad asked Lizzy how the day was:

Brad: "What did you and Grandma do today?"
Lizzy (rolling her eyes): "Well, nothing. Grandma just took a nap."

For the record, I really don't think that's true... is it Grandma??!?!?

Lizzy or Elizabeth

Lizzy's speech teacher, Cindy, was showing her how to play a new computer game. When the computer asked for the player's name,  Cindy had a question for Lizzy:

Cindy: "Should I call you Lizzy or Elizabeth?"

Lizzy: "Well, everyone call me Elizabeth when my in trouble."

Distraction Technique

Lizzy was being super cooperative and even helpful today as we left daycare and headed to speech.
Lizzy: "Mom, you wish I was like this all the time?"
Me: "Yeah. That would be great."

Lizzy: "Ok, and my wish Jakey would always be naughty."
Me: "Why?"
Lizzy: "For then you would be too busy yelling at him to yell at me."

Best Part

Me: "Lizzy, how was your day?"
Lizzy: "Not bad."
Me: "What was your best part?"
Lizzy: "The parts when you were gone."

Alphabet Soup

Lizzy: "Hey Mom, my know how to spell my name now. L-I-Z-Z-Y"
Me: "Good job! You remembered the 'i'!"
Lizzy: "Yep. My just thought of alphabet soup and my spelled it right."

300 Mai Tais

Lizzy found a purple lei in the van today. I think it was a party favor from a birthday party Lexi went to the other day. Anyway, LIzzy decided it was the perfect accessory for our visit to Staples and she proudly wore it into the store.

Me: "Hey, I like your lei. Reminds me of Hawaii."
Lizzy: "Yeah. My just got back from Hawaii."
Me: "Really? Did you love the warm weather?
Lizzy: "Yep."
Me: "The sun?"
Lizzy: "Yep."
Me: "The beach?"
Lizzy: "Yep."
Me: "The sand?"
Lizzy: "Yep."
Me: "The mai tais?"
Lizzy: "What a mai tai?"
Me: "A grown up drink."
Lizzy: "Oh. My had three hundred of those."

Note to self: No trips to Hawaii for Lizzy until she's at least 21!

Silly Goose

It was a rough Monday morning at our house. Jake couldn't find his backpack, the little girls were sleepy, I couldn't find my keys. I slammed the door in frustration.

Later, after we dropped the big kids off at school, Lizzy questioned me about the door slamming incident:

Lizzy: "Why you so mad today?"
Me: "I wouldn't say I'm mad, just frustrated."

Lizzy: "Huh. Well that's silly. Guess we'll just call you silly goose."

My mood quickly changed, and it turned into a great Monday!

Moving Out

We got to help our sweet godson, Cooper, celebrate his first birthday tonight. And of course, no party is complete without a Lizzy-ism...

Lizzy, Cooper's dad Kai, and the rest of the kids were playing outside. I could tell Lizzy and Kai were having quite the conversation. Here's what I overheard:

Lizzy: "Do you want me to live here?"
Kai: "Sure."
Lizzy: "Because I'm not whining."
Kai: "Jody, I guess we're taking Lizzy."
Me: "Sweet. I'll go pack her suitcase."

Innocent enough, right?

Nope.

Lizzy did not want to leave. She couldn't understand why she had to leave her new house and her new family. Kai played along and told her after she took a bath and packed her suitcase she could come back.

She talked about that suitcase the whole five blocks home.

When we got home, she immediately got into the bathtub. After her bath, she disappeared for awhile. A few minutes later, she fell asleep on the couch. When I carried her to her bed, I discovered what she had been doing when she was "missing". She really, truly was packing her suitcase..... she had packed a couple of dresses into a basket that usually holds toys.

She is going to be pretty mad when she wakes up in her own bed tomorrow morning!

Today, Lizzy was so happy to find her favorite "pair" of shoes in the sandbox:
So from our house to yours, happy National Two Different Colored Shoes Day!

Me: "Lexi, why are you such a skinny minnie?"
Lizzy: "Yeah, her a skinny minnie and Mom you a fatty fatty!"

Lucky Girl

Lizzy, as she tripped and fell: "Lucky my didn't cry!"

Open the #*@! Door

Lizzy, trying to get into the house from the backyard: "Would somebody please open this damn screen door?!?!?!?"

Enjoying the Weather

One thing about living in North Dakota, when it comes to the weather, nothing surprises us anymore. It was 72-degrees on Thursday. Yesterday, we had a blizzard. Today, it was sunny...and windy.

So when it's nice outside, we take advantage of the weather. On Friday, the little girls couldn't get enough of the trampoline. This video isn't anything great, until the end.. when Lizzy says "Hey, why you not videoing me?" Ha. Classic Lizzy.

And yesterday, when the snow stopped, Lizzy went out to the garage, in her rainboots, winter coat, and swim suit. I wouldn't let her go outside, but she found a puddle in the garage to keep her busy.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring? I can't wait... to see what the weather is like, and to see what crazy things Lizzy does and wears!

Plug Your Ears

Lizzy was talking loudly in church this morning. It was bothering Jake:

Jake (whispering): "Lizzy, you have to stop talking so loud. It's church."
Lizzy (not whispering): "Well, just plug your ears if you don't want to hear me!'

Happy May Day

Just after 8:30 this morning, our doorbell rang. Lizzy ran to the door as fast as she could, only to find Lexi's friend Taylor running away.

Taylor left a very nice May Day basket, but Lizzy didn't understand the whole May Day thing. She went running after Taylor, yelling "Taylor Miller! Taylor Miller! Taylor Miller!"

Taylor Miller did not come back. Lizzy let her have it, via this video:

Once she settled down, and realized how much sugar was in the May Day basket, she was all smiles!

Princess

Lizzy: "Mom, my do love you the most, but..."
Me: "But what?"

Lizzy: "My also love dad, for him call me princess. You always just call me Lizzy."

"So Young!"

Lizzy: "My still can't believe my grandma is your mom!"
Me: "Why?"
Lizzy: "For her look so YOUNG!"
