"Touchdown"

As we get ready to ring in 2011, I am reminded of our New Year's Eve party last year (pre-Lizzy-isms).

At 11:00 Central Time, all the kids ran downstairs to watch the ball drop in New York City. The big kids all started yelling "Happy New Year". Lizzy jumped on the couch and yelled "Touchdown!"

This has become our favorite New Year's Eve story. Happy New Year!

"You still my mom!"

Tonight, Lizzy was up way too late and happened to catch my story on the 10:00 news. Hearing my voice and seeing my face on tv is certainly nothing new for her, but tonight it caught her attention:

Lizzy: "Mom! They said your name on tv!"
Me: "Really? What did they say?"
Lizzy: "They called you Jody Kerzman."
Me: "Hey, I know her!"
Lizzy: "Yeah. For that you. You name is Jody Kerzman. But you still my mom!"

"You don't look like a mom"

The girls and I went to the mall yesterday. On the way, Lizzy informed us she packed a hairbrush in her purse, just in case anyone needed to brush their hair. A few seconds later, this was our conversation:

Lizzy: "Mom, you don't look like a mom."
Me: "Why?"
Lizzy: "My don't know. But you look like a Grandma. Maybe you brush your hair and that help."

I took the brush, pretended to brush my hair, and gave it back to Lizzy.

Lizzy: "There. That much better. Now you look like a Mom. Now Lexi, you need to brush your hair."
Lexi (who had her hair in a ponytail): "I'm ok."
Lizzy: "Fine. You look like a frog though."

So Beautiful

We went to a program at school tonight. Lizzy didn't want to go, but once I told her she could wear one of her fancy Christmas dresses, she was ready to go. She picked the sparkly green Santa dress and a few beautiful necklaces. Here's our conversation as we were leaving the house:

Me: "Wow, Lizzy, you sure look nice."
Lizzy: "My know. My look beautiful. And you look fabulous."
Me: "Gee, thanks Lizzy. That's nice of you to say."
Lizzy: "For you know fabulous means old. And you are kinda old."

Then, as we were waiting for the program to start, Lizzy was visiting with a neighbor. Here's their conversation:

Tammy: "I like your dress, Lizzy."
Lizzy: "Thanks. My mom made me wear this dress."
Tammy: "Oh, well I like your necklaces too. Were those your mom's idea too?"
Lizzy: "Nope. That was all me."

"A Haircut in There"

Lizzy, as she opened a manicure kit "Wow, there's a haircut in there!"

We took the manicure kit away, trying to avoid a repeat of last Christmas, when she gave herself a mullet, and lost all her beautiful curls. I have now once again hidden every pair of scissors in the house, just in case. Better to be safe, than to have Lizzy cut her own hair. Again.

Merry Christmas to Lizzy

Lizzy has already opened a couple of her Christmas presents - one from Tess, and one from her speech teacher. She's pretty thrilled about her gifts:

Lizzy: "Wow, Cindy give me a magic wand and Tess give me a gumball machine. My really lucky. Guess they love me."

Favorite Sister

Lizzy insists that Lexi's friend, Tess, is her favorite sister. Last night, I finally found out why:

Me: "Lizzy why is Tess your favorite sister? Why not Morgan or Lexi?"
Lizzy: "Tesslin is my favorite sister for she has shiny hair. Morgan doesn't have hair and Lexi is mean."

Storytime

This video is proof that Lizzy really can be a good sister when she wants to be. But I have no idea why  they are naked....

And yes, she ends the story with "Amen".

Good News and Bad News

This morning I moved the couch out from the wall to clean out the toys the girls stashed back there. Lizzy walked in on the mess, and was pretty happy to find her lost candy. But a few minutes later, she came back, a little less excited:

Lizzy: "Mom, my have good news and bad news. The bad news is my can't open this."
Me: "I can open it. What's the good news?"
Lizzy: "The good news is my so excited to finally find my candy!"

Letter to Santa

In case you can't read Lizzy's handwriting, here is a translation of her letter to Santa...

Dear Santa,

Have the best Christmas ever. Merry Christmas. My love you Santa.
Lizzy. Amen.

L-Y-Z-Z-Y

Lizzy is trying really hard to learn to write her name. She's doing pretty well, I think. But she can't quite get the spelling of her name down....

Lizzy: "That my stocking, Mom?"
Me: "I'm not sure."
Lizzy: "Yep. It is. It say L-y-z-z-y."

Hmm, good imagination, because our stockings don't have any names on them! But she has claimed the blue snowflake one, and maybe I'll find a fabric marker and write her name on it tonight. But.... how should I spell it????

"Thanks Mom"

I am finally feeling better, after being under the weather for about two weeks. Today, Lizzy started coughing. Here's a portion of our conversation when I picked her up from daycare:

Lizzy: "Cough, cough."
Me: "Lizzy, are you sick?
Lizzy: "My think so."
Me: "I'm sorry. I bet I got you sick."
Lizzy: "Yes. You did. Thanks. Thanks a lot Mom."

"My smell yummy!"

Me: "Lizzy, you should take a bath."
Lizzy: "No! Please my miss my bath?"
Me: "Hmm... how do you smell?"
Lizzy, sniffing her arm: "Huh. My smell yummy. Guess my miss my bath!"

Lizzy, at the gas station tonight: "Mom! My have to go potty!"

Me: "Lizzy, we'll be home in two minutes. You can wait."

Lizzy, after a dramatic pause: "Oh, my guess my just teasing you Mom. My don't have to go potty. My just have to fart. My fine now."

"So 'cited!"

Lizzy and I are watching tv. I thought it might be a good time to ask her about her day....

Me: "Lizzy, did you have a good day."
Lizzy, after a long pause: "My so 'cited you turned on cartoons my can't even talk!"

An Angel

Lizzy was a terror at Jake's basketball game this morning. So between Jake's game and Lexi's game, I gave her a lecture about her behavior. I even threatened to take tv away for the weekend if she didn't shape up.

After Lexi's game, she got in the van and asked, "Mom, my been an angel at Lexi's game?"

Guess she got the message!

"My have two fathers"

Brad took the girls to mass and potluck supper last night. Father Gene stopped by their table and commented that a couple of us were moving. Brad explained that Jake was at basketball practice and I wasn't feeling well. Fr. Gene said he hoped I feel better, and walked to the next table.

Lizzy looked from Fr. Gene to Brad, to Fr. Gene and back to Brad, then said "My have two fathers!"

A Single Lady

Kaleb was over to play with Jake today. Lizzy was pretty excited to see him, but by the end of the day she had decided she no longer loves this "Kaleb-guy". In fact, he's no longer her boyfriend. I asked her why:

"My don't know. My just broke up with him."

I think Kaleb is a little relieved.

Lizzy: "Daddy, you have to smell my sweatshirt!"
Brad: "Ok. Hmm... it smells like.... flowers?"
Lizzy: "No Dad! It smell like hunting! Like deer! It smell GOOD!"

Lizzy, talking on her cell phone to Santa: "My want a cell phone, a camera, and a piano. And everything my want, my get, right Santa?"
