"It actually worked!"

Lizzy, after chasing Morgan through the grocery store and finally bringing her back to where I was paying: "Whew. I'm sure glad she can't read yet."
Me: "What?"
Lizzy: "I told her that sign over there said 'Morgan must go find her mom' and it actually worked!"

Growing Up

Just thought I should share the latest Lizzy pictures here.
Can you believe she is 6 and going into first grade?
She is growing up so darn fast... and while she's becoming a young lady, she is still so full of personality, smiles, charm, and hilarious Lizzy-isms.
I hope none of that ever changes.
Love this kid.

Lizzy is also pretty lucky to have such amazing sisters and brother. I love these pictures of the four of them together. And I love how they are all showing their personalities. If you didn't know Lizzy, it would be easy to figure out which kid is behind the Lizzy-isms... the kid with the attitude, and confidence!

As always, thanks to Jessi from J&J Photography for capturing my kids' personalities. She is the best!

"A View"

Morgan: "Look at the picture Lizzy drew for me."
Me: "Wow, it's pretty. Is it mountains?"
Lizzy: "No.. it's a view."

Lizzy, watching Morgan act like a crazy person, in a very serious voice: "And I was the wild one?"

Hat Day

Me: "Lizzy, do you want me to fix your hair?"
Lizzy: "Ummm, no. I'm thinking it's a hat day today."

"I'm praying over here!"

Me: "Morgan! You have to settle down!"
Morgan, screaming and crying.. typical bedtime temper tantrum: "I don't want to!"
Lizzy, laying in bed, hands folded over her chest: "Hey! I'm praying over here! Can you please be quiet?!"
Me, trying not to giggle: "What are you praying for?"
Lizzy: "For Morgan to stop screaming so I can go to sleep!"

Blessings

Lizzy, as she walked down the stairs and glanced out the window this morning: "I see one of God's blessings! The grass!"

**I guess her one night of Vacation Bible School really made an impression! Can't wait to hear her observations after a whole week!

Look at yourself!

Lizzy: "Mom! Was that a hot flash?"
Me: "Um, no. I'm not old enough for hot flashes."
Lizzy: "Well, have you looked at yourself lately?!!?!"

Creepin' Jenny

Lizzy: "Mom! Smell this pretty flower!"
Me: "Um, Lizzy, that's a weed. It's called creepin' Jenny."
Lizzy: "Huh. Who knew a weed could smell so great?"

Marshmallows on the Campfire

The girls did a super cute project at daycare at the Y while the big kids and I worked out.
Here is Lizzy's:
It's a campfire, and the blue things are marshmallow cookers, and, obviously, they're being used to roast some marshmallows.

A closer look shows that half of Lizzy's marshmallows are missing.

When I asked her what happened, she replied: "What? I was hungry sitting in the back of the van on that long drive home."

On the bright side:  it doesn't appear that she ate any glue.....

On a Budget

Lizzy: "Could we please go to the store?"
Me: "What do you need?"
Lizzy: "I'm ready to change my earrings, but I need to buy some new earrings."
Me: "Do you have money?"
Lizzy: "Yep. I think my budget is going to be $7 because I don't want to spend all my money. I need to stay in my budget."

She did.... my girl shopped the clearance rack and got 12 pairs of earrings for $7!

Lucky

Lizzy, after scoring some great toys from Lexi's friend Hannah: "I'm really glad Lexi and Hannah are friends."
Me: "Hannah is nice, isn't she?"
Lizzy: "No, I meant if Lexi and Hannah weren't friends I never would have gotten that Easy Bake Oven or these doll clothes or even that marker thing."

A Butler

Lizzy, digging through the hallway closet, and emerging with a Swiffer duster: "Look! I'm a butler!"

Love

Me: "Lizzy you are so sweet to Toby. It's fun to watch you guys play.
Lizzy: "Well, I guess I'm a Toby lover. And I think Toby is a Lizzy lover!"

Masterpiece

Lizzy, while painting with sidewalk paint: "Do you like my masterpiece?"
Me: "Yep."
Lizzy: "I think I could do this for the rest of my life."

Cat Nap

Lizzy, after waking up from a short nap in the van: "Was that a cat nap?"
Me: "Yeah, I guess it was."
Lizzy: "Why do they call it a cat nap?"
Me: "I'm not really sure.. maybe because cats take lots of short naps."
Lizzy: "Well, I guess I could study a cat at Grandma's house and find out for sure."

"If you smell Ma...."

We spent Saturday at Ma's cabin. I knew Lizzy had fun, but I didn't realize just how much fun she had until bedtime last night:

Lizzy: "Mom, if you smell Ma, don't worry. It's just woof woof (the stuffed dog she has slept with since she was one). Please don't wash him.. I love the smell of Ma."

"You made me smile"

Lizzy, as we biked to Camp Ed this morning: "Mom, you made me smile today."
Me: "I did? How?"
Lizzy: "Well you made my favorite breakfast, which is pancakes, and then you let me ride my bike to school. Those are two of my favorite things and they made me smile."

Thanks Lizzy for reminding me to take so much joy in the little things in life. May you all enjoy your pancakes, bike ride, or whatever makes you smile!
