New Barbies
Tess brought over some Barbies and other toys for Lizzy and Morgan. It was like Christmas all over again.
Me: "Lizzy, it's time for bed."
Lizzy: "Nope. My playing Barbies."
Me: "Ok, I'll rock Morgan to sleep, but when she's asleep, you need to go to sleep too."
Lizzy: "MOM! My can't. My so excited about these Barbies my won't ever sleep!"

Self Portrait
We were in Lexi's classroom this morning to learn about middle school registration. Lizzy was bored, and started drawing on the board:
Lizzy: "Dad, this is a picture of me. You can tell it's me for it's pretty, like me."
Lizzy: "Dad, this is a picture of me. You can tell it's me for it's pretty, like me."
The Break-Up
Out of the blue this morning, Lizzy announced she has to break up with Kaleb.
Lizzy: "My think my need to break up with Kaleb."
Me: "Why?"
Lizzy: "For him have crazy hair!"
The girl has standards, and she knows what she likes!

"Good Night Pants"
Lizzy, getting her pajamas on: "Mom, you need to get your "good night pants" on too."
Me: "My what?"
Lizzy: "You know, your "good night pants". Like these. The jammies you wear when you tell me good night."
Me: "My what?"

Road Trip
Lizzy (and Jake) are going to Minnesota this weekend. Lizzy is pretty excited. Last night she realized that going to Minnesota means she will miss Lexi's basketball tourney.
Lizzy: "Lexi, my really want to go to Minnesota. Is it ok if my miss your games?"
Lexi: "Sure."
Lizzy: "Thanks Lexi! For my don't like watching your games anyway. They are so boring!"
Later on, she was telling me everything she needs to pack, and how she can just use a bag because a suitcase would be too big for her to carry. Then, she started saying goodbye:
Lizzy: "Goodbye Lexi. Goodbye Mom. Goodbye Morgan. Goodbye Dad."
Me: "Where are you going?"
Lizzy: "Minnesota!"
Me: "Oh, that's not until Friday."
Lizzy: "My know. My just practicing telling you all goodbye!"

Wednesday = Waffle Cones!
It's been awhile since we've done Waffle Cone Wednesday (too cold for frozen yogurt!!). But today it was a balmy 32-degrees so Lizzy, Morgan and I took Mary for a Wednesday treat.
On the drive there, Lizzy found her "credit card" in the van. She insisted on paying. The nice lady working played right along with her. She pretended to swipe it and even gave her a receipt (I think it was actually someone else's, but it worked for Lizzy!)
Lizzy was so proud that she could buy us waffle cones. She carried her "credit card" and her receipt around most of the afternoon and even tried to swipe her card when we went to the Y. I shoudl probably address this credit card addiction now, rather than later!!

"My need that"
Lizzy had what she says was a zit on her chin last week. Now she says she has another one. Tonight, she saw a commercial for Proactive, which she has decided she needs.
Lizzy: "My need that. For my have zits on my chin and in my ears."
I didn't know what to say. I still don't. My three year old is worried about zits. I am speechless.

The Princess
Me: "Lizzy, shut the tv off please."
Lizzy: "But Mom, my love tv and my want to watch it."
Me: "Lizzy, we'll watch tv later. Let's play toys now."
Lizzy: "Mom! Princesses can watch tv whenever they want. And my a princess."
Me: "Well, I'm a mother of a princess, and I say no tv."
Lizzy: "Well, princesses don't have moms."
Me: "So what am I?"
Lizzy: "A doodie."

Best Part
Me: "What was the best part of your day today, Lizzy?"
Lizzy: "The concession stand at Lexi's game."

Freezing!
Here's proof of just how cold it is today:
Lizzy, as we ran from the van to the restaurant: "Hurry! For my butt cheeks are freezing! And so are my face cheeks!"

Normal Shoes
Lizzy has been wearing these dress-up shoes everywhere she goes this week. It's easier to let her wear them than to argue with her (even though the temperature has not been above zero for days).
This morning, we were rushing to get the big kids to school on time. While Lizzy was putting her coat on, I put her shoes on the steps for her. But because it was my idea, she didn't want these shoes today:
Lizzy: "Mom, why you making me wear these fancy shoes? My want normal shoes!"
Me: "Lizzy, we're in a hurry. Please just wear those shoes."
Lizzy: "Ok, but my really wish my could wear normal shoes. You so mean."
I can't win!

"My just a little bit hungry"
Lexi and Lizzy were counting candles to put on my cake tonight. They are brats. I don't think we need candles, but whatever. Anyway, while they were counting candles I asked how many sandwiches they wanted. Lexi is just like me... she can't count and talk... and I caught her at candle number 11:
Me: "Lexi, how many sandwiches do you want?"
Lexi: "11"
Me: "What?"
Lizzy (laughing): "Wow, Lexi want 11 sandwiches for her 11 years old. My just want three, for my am three years old and my just a little bit hungry."

Y-C-May
We went to the Y last night. Lizzy was so excited to go to daycare, and the big kids were so excited to shoot baskets.
As we were leaving, Lizzy was talking about all the fun things she did at daycare. Jake was egging her on:
Lizzy: "My had so much fun."
Jake: "Where?"
Lizzy (pointing at the Y): "There!"
Jake: "But what is that place called?"
Lizzy: "You know, the Y-C-May!"

Penmanship Practice
This morning I turned the page in my planner, only to find that someone else had already done the same.
Lizzy is fascinated with writing her name. She writes it anywhere she can, and whenever she has a pen and paper (or a wall, or a piece of furniture). My planner is not off limits I guess.
And, interestingly, although she writes her name with an "i", if you ask her how to spell her name, she will tell you it is spelled "L-Z-Z-Y"

Lizzy's Amazing Ears
Brad and I were in the kitchen, helping Lexi study spelling words. Lizzy was in the bathtub. She apparently has awesome hearing....
Me: "How do you spell 'discontent'?"
Brad: "What does that even mean?"
Me: "Lexi, what does it mean? It's your spelling word."
Lizzy (from the bathtub): "Discontent mean camping.. you know, camping in a tent."

Cheering for Lexi
Lizzy's cheer/song: "Lexi gonna kick some butt, kick some butt"... you get the idea.
And, you'll notice Lizzy doesn't like to share her limelight... Morgan and Mary get quite the "look" when they try to steal my attention!
Genius!
Me: "Lizzy, this isn't a good show. I don't want you to watch it."
Lizzy: "Well, it's what is on."
Me: "Maybe you should shut the tv off."
Brad: "Or change the channel."
Lizzy: "Dad! You're a genius!"

"A Talk"
The kids and I were at school yesterday afternoon. Lizzy and I were visiting with Sue, a custodian who is also our neighbor. Lizzy loves her and was telling her all about Christmas. Sue and I were also having a side conversation. Suddenly, Lizzy went over to a table, set up two chairs facing each other and told me to come over there because we needed "to talk".
I sat down and got an earful:
Lizzy: "Mom, you been AWFUL. My trying to talk with Sue and you keep interrupting me. You need to shape up."
This lecture sounds familiar. Maybe she is listening......

Telling Time
Lizzy got a new watch off the clearance rack at Wal-Mart tonight. She had to put it on immediately On the way home, she asked us what time it was:
Lizzy: "What time is it?"
Me: "I don't know. What does your watch say?"
Lizzy: "Dark-15."

Haircut
Lizzy got a haircut tonight.
She fell asleep with gum in her mouth this afternoon. Unfortunately, the gum did not stay in her mouth while she slept (In my defense, I was not home when this happened. I always check her mouth for gum when she's sleeping. No lie. I do.)
After several minutes of screaming and trying to get the gum out, I resorted to cutting it out. It was a lot of hair.
Fortunately, it sort of blends in with her bangs. Sort of.
I've lost count of how many haircuts Lizzy has had at home....those she's given herself and those I've had to do to get stuff out of her hair. She promised me she won't cut her hair though. Because, she says, if she cuts her own hair she "will be bald. Like Morgan. And Morgan a baby. And my not a baby. If my a baby, then my need a nookie. And my don't like nookies."

"Just Kidding"
Me: "Lizzy, I have to go. Dwayne is waiting for me."
Lizzy: "Oh, tell Dwayney Walker my don't like him anymore."
Me: "What? Why don't you like him anymore? I thought you were friends."
Lizzy: "Ha. Gotcha. Tell him my just kidding. My do like him!"

The Truth Comes Out
Me: "Lizzy, thanks for being so good at speech and at the grocery store."
Lizzy: "No problem. Know why my been so good?"
Me: "Nope. Why?"
Lizzy: "For my don't want you to yell at me."

A Sign of the Times
Lexi downloaded a Taylor Swift song to my cell phone. She also apparently set that as my alarm. Lizzy was in bed with me this morning when the alarm went off. She mumbled, still half asleep, "Oh, my love this ringtone."

A New Year's Kiss
We had our annual New Year's Eve party last night. At 11:00, all the kids went downstairs to watch the ball drop in New York City. Lizzy asked why everyone was kissing. We explained that that's what you're supposed to do to ring in the new year. She promptly found her boyfriend/Jake's buddy, Kaleb, and much to his horror, kissed him. After the kiss, she exclaimed, "Ha, gotcha, sucker!"
